Thought For The Day: 7.29.08

There's a nudist beach in south Orange County that has been clothing optional since the 50's. I've never been there (honestly), but I read an article in the newspaper the other day about how the city had to pass a new ordinance to make everyone put their clothes on.

Why would they make all those nice, old, peaceful, overweight naturists put their clothes on, you ask? Because it seems that some of the younger, more vital nudists are getting a little too excited about running around naked...if you catch my meaning. Some of the fellow nudists (and, apparently, more than a few neighbors), who for 50+ years didn't have a problem watching fat, leathery folks flop their parts around are suddenly appalled at the idea of the younger sunbathers doing what comes natural when you're fit, hot and naked!

Shocking!!

Since the advent of the "naturist" movement back in the black & white days the more prissy component of our society has always been mortified by nudists. The assumption being that nudity was just the first step towards out-and-out sexual deviancy. Now it turns out the nudists have rules, and they really don't want to watch these "kids" doing the dirty on their beach.

Somewhere in there is a darn fine example of irony. So of course I chose to make fun of the whole lot of 'em.

Thought For The Day: 7.23.08

This thought was supposed to be drawn on Monday, but I hated the way the dishes came out. So I erased it all and started over. Then on Tuesday I got the dishes looking the way I wanted, but it took all night. So finally, tonight, I get to draw Shamus and post this for all too see.

I guess I'm not as quick with this tablet as I want to be...yet. But I toil for you, my humble audience. I hope you enjoy today's Thought.

Lucy and I are taking a little "staycation" this weekend, so tomorrow night is my last night home until Sunday. I'm going to try and draw one more tomorrow night, but if I don't please forgive me. I know I've been very slow this month but it's been a very busy month for me. I'll step it up in August I promise.

Also, I hope Noël notices the color of Shamus hat today, it's a nod to her and her love of the color purple. ;)

Thought For The Week: 7.19.08

Okay, so by now you've probably noticed the shameless plug at the bottom of the cartoon, let's address this like adults, okay?

It's my f*&#ing blog and I'll put what I want on my cartoons! Have we cleared that up? Great.

Tonight I was going to do a different thought, I wasn't even going to do a full-color one. But then just before I came up to draw, my cat laid a stinky crap. As I was cleaning her cat box it suddenly occurred to me what was wrong with our entire civilization...we are a society of people who are deeply ashamed that our shit stinks!

Perhaps, just the realization of this will help bring our culture back together so we can live as happy folks who aren't afraid to inhale deeply while in the public restroom. Sniff sniff. What's that smell you ask?

That is the odor of your fellow human beings my friend. Just be grateful that smell doesn't come out of YOU!

Thought For The Day: 7.14.08

** WARNING - NAUGHTY THOUGHT **
Shamus is feeling bawdy today. I hope you're not offended...oh hell, no I'm not. I hope you ARE offended!!

If you're not offended then you're my kind of people. Since most of you looking at this are my kin, then I know you're my kind of people and thus you're not offended. But if you're not my family and you're not offended then you're still my kin and I'm glad to have you. I will try to offend you at a later time.

Needless to say, I doubt this one will ever get published in a newspaper anywhere. But the idea of Shamus as a beer-swillin' sexy bandit was just too good a visual to pass up. ;p

I'm getting more and more visitors from all over. I've had hits from 11 different states and now 10 different countries! I love the web, you just put it out there long enough the whole world will watch you.

Spread the word...SHAMUSTHOUGHTS.COM!! My goal now is to get someone to look at my cartoons from every one of the 50 United States. Next stop - The World!

Thought For The Day: 7.12.08

Shamus is clearly guilty of something. Bad Shamus.

I see by my SiteMeter stats that I've had visitors from the UK, Romania, Singapore and Germany! Welcome!!

Of course, two of those visitors only stayed on the site less than 2 seconds so it's possible they got there by accident and left PDQ, but I'm STILL counting them dammit! The Singapore visit was substantially longer, that person stayed more than 5 minutes. I hope they liked my art. Come back soon Singapore! Leave a comment, say "hi" to my family!!

It also seems I have visitors from Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Connecticut. I don't think I know those folks either but I'm very glad they're checking out my cartoons. Hey folks, if you like what you see here please don't keep it to yourself...SPREAD THE WORD!!

Send every person on the face of the planet to shamusthoughts.com so I can die knowing I put a smile on everyone's face (not that I'm going to die soon so this is more of a "long-term" plan you see). Thank you.

Thought For The Week: 7.7.08

This cartoon features Tog. He's a caveman. Poor Tog.

Once again, sorry it's been so long since my last cartoon. Between buying a new car 2 weeks ago and having my family in town last week it's been tough to make the time. But I'm back NOW baby!!

I wanted to thank Eric, who dropped by the other day and said nice things about my art and he's not even family or anyone I know. Cool!

If you're eagle-eyed enough to notice this Thought has changed again. I was futzing with it this morning and decided to make it a full-color cartoon since it was mostly colored in anyway. I also made it a Thought For The Week because I kind of like the sentiment of it. Sorry, you don't get a vote.
